Galvin’s Provides Great Food for Georgetown Dining

Madeline Allen, Staff Reporter

Since 2008, Galvin’s on Main Street has been a Georgetown favorite. People of all ages come out every weekend to indulge in their variety of menu items. These dishes include, but aren’t limited to, burgers, salads, sandwiches, calzones, fish, and eggplant parmesan.

Galvin’s was founded by Stephanie Jones and Dan Galvin. They grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and they had the dream to bring the Philly Cheesesteak type of cuisine to their new home in Georgetown. The people of Scott County welcomed them with open arms and eventually led the way for Galvins to move down the street into a building over twice the size of the original one!

The moment you enter the building, you’re greeted by intricate wooden details throughout the facility and hanging lights overtop each table that are mixed and matched in very thought-out yet funky ways. There are also high top tables placed in front of a garage door that opens up and lets a nice summer breeze in when the weather is nice. It’s the perfect place to eat and watch the people, dogs, and cars fly by.

So what’s the draw? What is it about this small town bar and grill that people find so appealing? One woman, Carol McComas, said that she enjoys the lively atmosphere and friendly waitstaff. Jennifer Rice said that she enjoys the low prices they charge for a fun night out with friends.

The buffalo chicken salad, a refreshing yet flavorful blend of leafy greens, cheese, and buffalo chicken fingers make for a phenomenal meal. Another great option are their calzones! The buttery bread pocket can be filled with your favorite meats, veggies, and cheeses. This is a great option for both the kids and the parents and it’s plenty big enough to share. The only problem with all of these tasty foods is that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to wait!  Several items like their calzones take longer to arrive since they are made to order.  But here’s the catch- you don’t have to! They have giant pretzels, ooey gooey mozzarella sticks, spicy jalapeno poppers, and a billion more mouth watering appetizers!

The chef’s take pride in the fresh ingredients and gourmet dishes. They make a game plan each time they get an order from a large table or party to ensure that each customer receives a hot meal. This type of service comes with a higher price than you would pay at a fast food restaurant, but it’s so worth it.

The delicious food and attractive atmosphere results in booming business day in and day out. This is great for the wait staff but it does mean that they are extremely busy. Because of this, you may not get a whole lot of attention from your waiter or waitress, but their bubbly personalities and smiles make up for it.

Galvin’s on Main Street is open from 11am to 9pm on Monday- Wednesday, 11am to 10pm on Thursday- Saturday, and they are closed on Sunday. These hours may vary on holidays and special occasions but that information is only a click away on their website (galvinsonmain.com). If it’s not already, Galvin’s should be a Georgetown staple for you and your family!
