A new era is beginning at Great Crossing High School as a familiar face prepares to take the lead. For the 2026-2027 school year, Jenna Landacre will officially step into the role of principal, ensuring a seamless transition for the Warhawks. Having served as the school’s assistant principal for the past three years, Landacre is a well-known figure among faculty and students, positioning her to hit the ground running as she shifts from supporting the administration to heading it.
Having aspired to the principalship since the start of her administrative career, she is eager for the upcoming year. “I want to continue our legacy at Great Crossing High School,” Landacre said. Her leadership philosophy balances high expectations with approachability, and she wants students to view her as a fair leader who isn’t afraid to set the rules.
Junior NaKynnah Courtney agrees that Landacre is an adult that students feel comfortable approaching. Courtney explained the impact that Landacre has had on her. “She has helped me by instilling confidence in my everyday life. I’ve never had to question whether or not Mrs. Landacre will have my back, because I know on my hardest days she never fails to brighten my mood.”
Faculty also have found Landacre to be a positive administrator. “She is a leader here who genuinely cares and wants to help everyone who asks for help,” said English teacher Melanie Valdivieso. “She is no-nonsense and holds people to expectations.”
Outgoing Principal Joy Lusby offered high praise for her successor. “Mrs. Landacre has the best combination of common sense, humor, ‘withitness,’ and intelligence,” Lusby said. She also noted that Landacre is “highly skilled and data-driven” when it comes to making important decisions.
Landacre has been appreciative of the partnership she has had with Lusby and how it has been vital to her growth as a leader. “For the three years I have been here, Mrs. Lusby trusted me and believed in me to help things run smoothly and build culture within the school,” said Landacre.
Looking ahead to the next fall, Landacre aims to maintain the school’s vibrant spirit while increasing student agency through a new student panel which the goals of allowing student voices to be heard, bridging gaps between staff and students and to continue to foster a strong school culture. By amplifying student voices, she hopes to foster a more connected and unified campus culture. Landacre explained, “This will be a group of no more than 10 students who reflect the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our entire school. We will meet once a month to have honest conversations about what’s working, what isn’t, and how we can make our school a better place for everyone.”
Students interested in joining the new principal’s student panel must go through an application process this summer. Students that are passionate about their school experience and feel that they have a unique perspective are encouraged to apply. Landacre hopes many students will consider applying “because your voice matters. To make this school the best it can be, I need to hear your ideas and suggestions directly. This panel is about valuing your opinion and giving you a real say in our school’s future.”
Despite her new title, Landacre remains humble about the school’s success. She said, “If it weren’t for the other teachers, I wouldn’t have made it. The sense of community amongst the staff is what truly makes the school amazing.”
